About the Author
La’Chris Jordan is an actor, novelist and award-winning playwright who was named one of the “50 to WATCH” by the Dramatists Guild of America, and was a semifinalist for the 2013 Lila Acheson Wallace American Playwriting Program at Juilliard. La'Chris is also the author of two novels, The Memories of Bellevue and The Roses I Left Behind. She is currently working on her third book in the Bellevue Trilogy, Love in the Eyes of a Stranger, which is scheduled for release in Summer 2017.
La'Chris' is best known for her plays which have been produced and developed in theatres across the country including the Kennedy Center, Urban Stages, Karamu House, ACT Theatre, Seattle Repertory Theatre, Manhattan Repertory Theatre, the Ashland New Play Festival, the National Black Theatre Festival, the Arkansas Repertory Theatre and the NAACP Theatre Festival. In addition to numerous awards and honors, La'Chris has received artist grants from the Seattle Office of Arts & Cultural Affairs, Artist Trust, and the Rockefeller Foundation which funded La’Chris’ participation at the Voices at the River Playwriting Residency at the Arkansas Repertory Theatre for her play Roses in the Water. La’Chris’ most recent play, A Matter of Faith, was funded by the National Endowment for the Arts and the D.C. Commission on the Arts & Humanities for The Essential Theatre's New Play Development Program in Washington, D.C., under the artistic direction of S. Robert Morgan of HBO's critically-acclaimed "The Wire." La'Chris is also founder and head writer of BlackCinemadb.com, an online movie database and entertainment website for fans of African-American themed movies and storytelling.
