In the dark lurks the warrior. He moves stealthily through the black, stalking his prey. He seems to be all around the bewildered ones, then there he is. Zap! And all are tagged.
Laser tag has become the rage for would be warriors in suburbia. The new novel by Brian Maag, Nightfyre, is a quest to become the best in the realm of laser tag.
Dan “Nightfyre” Tanzen is ranked the second best “warrior” in the nation. He and his team, Alpha Extreme, are ranked as the best laser tag team in the state of Illinois, and Tanzen and his cohorts long to be the “Overlord” or champion of the laser tag nation. With cohesion and finesse, the team easily moves forward through the first round. In the Sectionals, however, the competition stiffens. Out of the darkness comes Dragon, a mysterious “warrior” who strikes fear into each member of Alpha Extreme. Each member must deal with their fear if they wish to advance. Tanzen leads his team into the dark battlefield, laser guns in hand, but Tanzen himself will face intense battle to attain his dream and an unlikely hero will have to rise up to lead the team into battle.
Filled with scenes of intense action and suspense, Nightfyre is a book for anyone who loves the excitement of laser tag, paintball, or video games. It also teaches an important lesson about pursuing a dream, no matter what obstacles stand in your way.
Growing up, I couldn't stand the thought of a creative writing assignment. That changed when one of my teachers challenged me to write a story that would earn an A by her high standards. I succeeded.
Soon after that challenge, I began writing my first book, Nightfyre (now available). It has been through many revisions since (as so many fiction works do) to get to what you read today.
I'm currently drafting my plans for a second novel, also fitting into the MG/YA market. As that comes closer to being completed, I'll keep you all posted.
