When my oldest child, Cole, entered the teenage years, the idea of a rite of passage grabbed my attention. For a boy, the goal is to help him know what it means to be a Godly man, which requires intentionality, teaching, the consistent example of a Godly man, and a memorable ceremony.
I asked a dozen men who’d all made intentional investments into Cole’s life to assist me in considering essential traits of a Godly man. (Cole is extremely blessed to have had some incredibly Godly coaches, teachers, youth sponsors, and church friends.) They each kindly agreed to study and pray about one trait – a trait which I’d observed to be evident in their life - and then teach Cole about it during a special, surprise event for him.
This book includes Thirteen Essential Traits of a Godly Man we communicated to Cole that night, and that I continue to try to emulate and teach to him. All men would do well to pursue them with all they have.
I am the Lead Minister of Highland Park Christian Church in Tulsa, Oklahoma.
I love my wife of seventeen years, Beth, as well as my two boys, and two girls. We share life with family & friends. Ray Ray (who calls me “Pops”) works in Arkansas.
Over the past seven years, I’ve experienced a significant job transition (within the same church), adopted a girl from Ethiopia, welcomed another into our family via birth, and felt the nudge to start writing. My first book, “Lead Your Family: 12 Ready-To-Use Ideas For Spiritually Leading Your Family,” was published by College Press Publishing in 2015. I write regularly for What’s in the Bible, Christian Standard and The Lookout, and for my blogs: brianjennings.com and leadyourfamily.net.
I also serve on the Board of Trustees for Blackbox International, which provides aftercare for boys who are victims of sex trafficking. Running, tennis, basketball and family adventures keep my head clear (well, sometimes).
