Nearly 4 years ago now I released my last album called “Where We Are And Where We Long To Be”. The theme of the album revolved around the idea of something called the “already / not yet” tension of the Kingdom of God. We know it to be coming soon, and we know it to be here now. We struggle with the tension of living in the Kingdom of God while also living on a broken planet.
I’ve titled this new album “If Only It Was Now”, which comes from the bridge of the song “Karlie”. That song and this album are just a continuation for me in the pursuit of learning to live with the tension. Learning to survive in the silence. In the “dark night of the soul”. When it can seem that God is not speaking, but in fact, is more present than we ever imagined.
My hope for this album is that God will choose to use it in your life, and that my feeble attempts at making Him known will make Him known to you.
Praise. Hope. Conviction. Mercy. Grace.? Memory. Ache. Longing. Praise. Hope.
For iBooks users:
My name is Rick Hopkins. I'm a married father of 4, sometimes more through foster care. I am a musician and songwriter, a web programmer and designer, a leader and a follower, a learner and a teacher, I don't have a lot to offer you, but what I do have I give to you freely.
My writings, whether by blog, song, book, or whatever other avenue are my attempt at sharing my heart and spreading the word that Jesus Christ is who he said he was, and that freedom is found in him and him alone. Like Brennan Manning said, "The Good News of the gospel of grace cries out: We are all, equally, privileged but unentitled beggars at the door of God’s mercy".
