At the age of eighteen, I met the man who would spend the next two decades abusing me in every imaginable way. It would take almost 20 years before I would finally understand that I was a traumatized and battered woman. What helped me finally understand this was poetry. These poems represent my journey from a woman who believed his every abuse was her fault to a woman ready to claim her life.
